It sits inside La Cordillera Nature Reserve, a protected stretch of water and reef northeast of the marina that's home to some of the healthiest coral in the area — precisely because so few boats stop there. The reef surrounding the cay is part of the protected reserve, and sightings of sea turtles, reef sharks, and eagle rays are documented frequently.
