Just 15–20 minutes off the coast of Fajardo sit two small, uninhabited islands — Cayo Icacos and Palomino — that feel like a completely different world from the mainland. No buildings, no roads, no crowds. Just clear water, white sand, and whatever you brought with you for the day.
Neither island has a ferry, a public dock, or any scheduled transportation — the only way to visit either one is by boat, which is exactly why they've stayed so unspoiled.
Both islands are reachable only by private or chartered boat departing from Marina Puerto del Rey in Fajardo. There's no ferry service, dock infrastructure, or land access of any kind — a boat is the only way in and the only way out. Most trips take 15–20 minutes each way, making either island an easy half-day outing.
A lot of private charters visit both islands in the same day — a short hop between the two lets you compare them without committing to just one.
