Boat Charter
for Non-Swimmers
Puerto Rico

"I can't swim" is the #1 reason people almost don't book a Puerto Rico charter — and almost always the reason they're happiest they went anyway. Here's everything you need to know.

Non-swimmers are completely welcome on all Boating Puerto Rico charters. USCG-licensed life jackets in all sizes (including children's) are on every vessel. Snorkeling is possible with a life jacket — no swimming ability required, crew assists in the water. Non-swimmers enjoy everything: the cruise, beach time, sea turtle viewing from the boat, snorkeling with a life jacket, wading in calm Caribbean water, food and drinks on deck, and Caribbean sunsets. Icacos Island (20-30 min from Fajardo) is our #1 recommendation for non-swimming groups — calm, shallow, crystal-clear water. WhatsApp (787) 717-3779 and tell us your group — we'll plan the perfect trip.

Non-Swimmers' Worries — Answered Honestly

"I Can't Swim — I'll Just Sit on the Boat While Others Snorkel"

With a life jacket, non-swimmers can float in the water, look down through a mask, and see the reef just like everyone else. The jacket provides 100% buoyancy — no swimming required. Our crew gets in with nervous first-timers and stays close. Many guests who said this before boarding came out of the water saying it was the best part of their trip.

"It's Not Safe for Someone Who Can't Swim"

All our vessels are USCG-licensed with life jackets for every person aboard. Our captains are US Coast Guard licensed and trained in water safety. Non-swimmers are never in situations they're not comfortable with. The protected anchorages we use in Culebra and Icacos have virtually no current or waves — conditions that professional instructors call "safer than a pool" for beginner swimmers.

"There's Nothing for Me to Do if I Can't Swim"

Wrong. The charter experience is not primarily about swimming — it's about the boat, the destination, the scenery, the food, the company, and the Caribbean. Non-swimmers enjoy every single part: the cruise, the beach (most have calm wading zones), watching sea turtles surface next to the boat, dolphins on the crossing, the floating mat, the included food and drinks, and sunsets from the water that you simply cannot get from land.

"My Kids Can't Swim — Too Risky"

Children who can't swim are among our most frequent guests and biggest fans. We stock children's life jackets for ages 2+. Kids are required to wear them on deck in open areas — standard safety protocol that parents appreciate. Seeing sea turtles swimming alongside the boat, splashing in knee-deep Caribbean water at a calm beach, and riding on a yacht are experiences children talk about for years.

Best Destinations

Where We Recommend for Non-Swimmers

🏝️
Icacos Island ⭐ Best for Non-Swimmers
30 minutes from Fajardo. Crystal-clear water shallow enough to stand in near shore. No waves, no current. Sea turtles surface regularly near the boat. Snorkeling possible with life jacket in the clearest water you've ever seen. The #1 recommendation for groups with non-swimmers.
🌊
Culebra — Flamenco Beach
The beach itself is extraordinary — a world-class destination even if you never enter the water. Calm lagoon at the west end perfect for wading. Non-swimmers get full enjoyment of this spectacular destination. The boat cruise there and back through the Culebra passage is its own spectacular experience.
🌅
Sunset Cruise — Zero Water Entry
If the group has strong non-swimmers and water activities aren't the goal, a sunset cruise is perfect — the boat stays in calm coastal waters, champagne on deck, spectacular Caribbean sunset. No snorkeling expected, no swim zones. Pure boat experience at its most elegant.
FAQ

Non-Swimmer Charter FAQ

Can I really snorkel if I can't swim?
Yes. A life jacket provides all the flotation you need. You float face-down, breathe through the snorkel, and look at the reef below. Our crew gets in with first-timers and stays close. Dozens of guests have had their first snorkel experience with us — many said it was the highlight of their trip to Puerto Rico.
Will I feel left out if I don't go in the water?
Not at all. Sea turtles surface next to the boat constantly. Dolphins join the crossing regularly. The beaches are world-class for walking and sitting. The boat itself, the food, the company, and the Caribbean scenery make for an incredible day without a single stroke in the water.
What if I'm nervous and change my mind about the water?
No problem. Some guests arrive saying they won't enter the water and end up snorkeling — because they see how calm and clear it is and the crew makes them feel safe. Others decide they prefer to stay dry — both are completely valid. Zero pressure, ever.
Are life jackets comfortable to wear in the water?
Modern Type III foam life jackets are comfortable and allow a full range of arm movement. They keep your head well above water without effort. You can float, look down through your mask, and move comfortably. Much less restrictive than most people expect.
